This Week in WordPress: Site Logos

Add Your Logo with Ease, Starting Today

Adding a logo to your site is one of the most important elements when customizing a new theme. Also, wouldn’t it be glorious if you could upload your logo once and have it apply to any theme you use in the future? Logo uploads have never been truly standardized until now. Today, WordPress.com announced a new feature (along with a WordPress.org-compatible plugin) called Site Logos. This new feature allows you to upload your logo once and themes with support will automatically show the logo exactly where it belongs. As of today, there are 14 themes that support this feature. One of those themes happens to be our very own, Gallery theme. I made a quick screencast to show you how the Site Logos feature works:

Side Note:  For self-hosted, make sure you add this plugin, first. (from the Github repository, click the “Download” button on the right column, then upload the ZIP file to your WordPress site using the plugin install screen)

Here’s the steps you will see in the video: 1. Go to Appearance → Customize → Site Title & Tagline 2. Click Change or Remove Logo 3. Select a logo image from your media library or upload a new one. 4. Optional: Crop the logo and click “add logo” to insert the image into your site. Here’s a look of what this area looked like before and after:

Remember, not all themes support this new feature, if your theme doesn’t support it, your Site Title & Tagline area will still look like the before image above.

Say goodbye to never knowing where to add your logo every time you change themes.  When you choose a theme that supports Site Logos, it is a breeze.
