Last week saw the launch of WordPress 3.4, with its brand new theme customizer. WordPress users can now live customize their themes before making applying them to their website. We’ve made our Adriatica Theme compatible with the theme customizer so you can create your perfect blog before making it live on your website.
Adriatica comes with a fluid-width layout that scales down to look beautiful on mobile devices. And we’ve included gorgeous typography courtesy of Google Web Fonts.
Adriatica also comes with three default color schemes so if you’re not happy with what you create in the live previewer you can apply one that we’ve come up with.
Let’s get started!
1. Install Adriatica
Download Adriatica and install it, either by uploading to wp-content/themes/ via FTP or using the uploader in WordPress.
2. Live Preview
Navigate to Appearance > Themes and click on the Live Preview button.
You’ll be directed to the Live Preview screen. On the left hand side are the options, on the right is the Theme. When you make changes you’ll see them appear straight away in the theme previewer.
3. Customize Your Theme
Click on the Appearance tab to change the link colors. You can change the default link color, the hover link color and the active link color.

The rest of the tabs give you even more options for customizing your website:
- Text – change the footer text
- Site Title & Tagline – change the site title and tagline, normally changed under Settings > General
- Colors – change the header text color and the background color
- Header Image – change the header image
- Background Image – upload a background image. You can alter the image’s position and decide whether it should be tiled or repeated.
- Static Front Page – decide whether you want a static front page or to display your blog posts. This setting is normally located under Settings > Reading.
Once you’re happy click Save & Activate. This will make your Theme live on your website.
4. More Settings
Adriatica comes with a few more settings that you can tweak. We’ve kept the theme options trimmed down so that you can focus on writing your blog.
Navigate to Appearance > Theme Options.
There are three color schemes available:
And three different layouts. You can shift the sidebar from right to left, or have no sidebar at all.
That’s it. You’re ready to start blogging!
